Palmdale has secured a $2 million federal grant to advance the long-planned Rancho Vista Boulevard Grade Separation project, a major infrastructure effort led by Representative George Whitesides.
The project centers on building a six-lane overpass at Rancho Vista Boulevard and Sierra Highway, eliminating the current at-grade crossing over busy Metrolink and Union Pacific tracks.
This upgrade aims to reduce traffic congestion, boost safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, and ensure more reliable access for first responders and families throughout the Antelope Valley.
Funds will be used for key preparatory steps, including utility relocation and property acquisitions, setting up construction.
Mayor Eric Ohlsen and Mayor Pro Tem Austin Bishop highlighted the project’s broader economic impact, noting its key role in supporting Plant 42 and solidifying Palmdale’s aerospace and defense leadership.
Additional improvements include new bike lanes and sidewalks, making routes safer for all.
